Roundup and Funny Friday

What an incredible week this has been! Cleopatra's Moon was officially released. The LA Times and The Wall Street Journal gave it excellent reviews. I returned from the national convention of the Junior Classical League where my book sold out. And I've been featured in a number of wonderful blogs.

My cup runneth over! (Granted, not that hard to do, but still.)

Amidst all the travel, excitement and chaos, I forgot to do a Friday Funny last week. I didn't want to let that happen again, but this week has been crazy as well with back-to-school events (yes, kids in Georgia start school in the beginning of August; don't ask why--nobody knows).  Fortunately, I came across this:

Copyright, Berger & Roper, Strange World, Scholastic

This cracked me up because often, after giving tours, it's time for lunch! Also, I've noticed that most kids already know how the brain is removed (through the nostrils with a curved tool). So I've taken to getting even more descriptive with the grossness, just to watch them go, "EWWWW! Tell us more!"

And since this is promotion time for me (something we authors hate to do but are required to in this economy), I thought I'd do a link roundup of reviews, interviews and shout-outs:

The LA Times review:  http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/books/la-ca-vicky-schecter-20110731,0,3182643.story

The WSJ review:  http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111904888304576472081290977102.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

A teen's review at Book Angel YA (though I can't decide which I like better--that she's 14 and read the book or that she BLOGS about books; how awesome is she?): http://tinyurl.com/3sg4eme

A starred review from Shelf-Awareness! http://www.shelf-awareness.com/readers-issue.html?issue=15

An interview at Historical Novels:  http://www.historicalnovels.info/Vicky-Alvear-Shecter.html

A feature on my friend's blog, the super-talented, Elizabeth O. Dulemba: http://dulemba.blogspot.com/2011/08/cleopatras-moon-by-vicky-alvear-shecter.html

A review at the awesomely named site, FrogenYozurt:  http://frogenyozurt.com/2011/07/cleopatras-moon-a-historical-novel-by-vicky-alvear-shecter/

Meanwhile, you may be able to win a free book at some of these and future features, so keep an eye out (see Elizabeth's link above!).

Tonight, it's my official launch party at my favorite bookstore of all times, LITTLE SHOP OF STORIES in Decatur. It's at 7 pm. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by!

Ewwwwwwww. To the funny. Not your book. I'm bringing Cathy-on-a-Stick to LSOS. I hope that's not awkward for DQC.
